Chamber of Commerce welcomes targeted relief; cooperatives brace for margins

Cordoba Chamber president Quiroga calls targeted instrument 'the right tool at the right hour'; Sant Joan cooperatives and outer-island ferries prepare to resume schedules.

CORDOBA — The Almaria Chamber of Commerce, whose warning earlier in the week that the transport and fishing cooperatives faced "severe margin pressure" was widely noted, welcomed yesterday's cabinet determination with a measured statement from its offices on the Plaça del Mar. The Chamber's president, Señor Quiroga, called the targeted instrument "the right tool at the right hour," and praised the decision to hold a sealed remainder against further shocks.

Among the cooperatives, the response was warmer still. The master of the Sant Joan trawler cooperative, speaking to this paper at the quay, said simply: "We can sail on Monday." The outer-island ferrymen, whose sailings had been curtailed, have indicated that full schedules will resume within the week.

Not every voice was content. Certain deputies of the opposition have continued to press for an immediate and unconditional drawing of the Reserve, and a rival sheet carried an op-ed yesterday in that key. The Chamber's statement did not engage with the argument, observing only that "the cistern that is emptied in haste is not there when the drought is long."
