Sant Joan to name the absent at this morning's intercessions
Four lists, one altar, one hour: the form is proper, the breadth is not.
By V. Aldama·From edition 26, Religion
The Primate of the Almarian Church will preside at Sant Joan this morning, and the intercessions, as set out in the Cardenal's pastoral statement of Friday, will name the Poniente contacts now under observation at Sant Miquel, the four hospitalised at the Clínica Sant Cardenal Marín, the eleven of the Passeig, and the three correspondents whose whereabouts remain unaccounted for.
"Beloved children of this land, faithful sons and daughters whom the Lord has gathered as the sea gathers," the Cardenal wrote in the message issued from his office, a text whose closing pages call the faithful to charity in a week the parishes have found taxing.
The rite is the form proper to such weeks; the Cardenal has used it before, during the floods of two winters ago and during the influenza of the spring before that. What is unusual is the breadth of the list. Four separate matters, each weighed in its own register elsewhere this weekend, will be carried at one altar within one hour.
The Mass is at half past ten. The Cardenal is expected to leave the sanctuary by the Carrer Vella entrance, as is his preference on Sundays.
