The Cardenal on charity in the season of contagion

The Cardenal on charity in the season of contagion

The Primate's op-ed counsels against the retreat inward; Sunday's intercessions at Sant Joan will proceed with the ordinary precautions.

By By V. Aldama·From edition 21, Religion

His Eminence Cardinal Esteban Marín has written, for this edition, on the temptation that accompanies every season of contagion: the temptation to retreat inward, to shut the door on the neighbour, to mistake caution for charity. The full text appears among the op-eds on page five.

The Cardenal will read the names of the Estrella's eleven and the three correspondents at Sunday intercessions in Sant Joan. 'Patience of the Sea' will be sung at the doors. The intercessions had been scheduled before the hantavirus confirmation; the Primate's office advises that the liturgy will proceed, with the ordinary precautions observed.

The Cardenal has not commented on the quarantine. It is not his office to do so, and the silence will be read, by those who read such silences, as deliberate.
